Extended Essays

I recently met up with my cousin to help her with her extended essay. If that rings a bell to you, I could probably guess you were or currently are in the IB program.

It just feels so surreal to be helping her with this since I was in the same position four years ago…

When I was a junior/senior in high school, I wrote my extended-essay on film, studying different cinematic techniques Hayao Miyazaki used in his famous films Spirited Away and Kiki’s Delivery Service. I remember when I turned my topic in, someone (not going name who) discouraged me saying I couldn’t do a film analysis on animated movies, or that I didn’t have enough knowledge or experience with film to get a good grade.

16 pages and 4,000 words later I got an A on my extended essay and it was such a darn good feeling.

Fortunately for my cousin, I love writing and my experience with the EE was a good one, so helping her with it is definitely fun for me.

Moral of the story is, don’t let anyone tell you you can’t if you really want to because proving them wrong is such a such a sweet, sweet victory.
