I was on my way to get a chocolate chip cookie this evening when I heard a bunch of yelling and shouting in the hallway… To my delight, I saw the Posse Interview posters and nostalgia hit me right then and there.
The first time I ever stepped foot inside the Discovery building was when a few of my high school classmates and I got to do the first round group interview for the Posse Scholarship back in the summer of 2013. It was definitely one of my favorite memories from high school—I honestly had so much fun doing all the interview activities (despite being monitored and “graded” by adults). I remember how badly I wanted to win the four year full-ride scholarship knowing it would help my family financially. I kept praying and praying and praying in hopes to get it (because that’s “totally” how prayers work lolol amirite? xD).
But at the end of it all, I ended up not getting it. If I could go back in time and talk to past and extremely disappointed Chloe, I would tell her “hakuna matata!” and that God has a much better plan for her. I always worried how I would pay for college since then but reflecting on my experience so far, God has always provided for me through my former bakery part-time job, financial aid, scholarships, and a supportive community.
Right now I’m not living the most ideal life, but I am so confident I’m where I’m supposed to be. Today was just a great reminder for me that when something doesn’t go exactly the way I want, I know God has something else better and more extraordinary in mind. I believe hard work pays off and gratitude is strength—and nothing has ever made me change my views on that.
